甚麼是足球?隊員雖然熱愛足球,但開始時他們對足球的瞭解並不多,以為將球踢出去便行。作為球隊的教練,在執教初期實在有無從入手的感覺。但是這班球員比主流球員更投入練習,他們對足球的熱愛並不遜色於任何人。

訓練初期曾把球員當作一般運動員去訓練,但效果並不顯著,經過幾番調整和觀察,結果將訓練模式稍作調整:例如把一個連貫動作化成兩個或三個動作(特別是協調動作),然後在練習時製造機會,讓他們不自覺地把整個動作發揮出來。結果,他們會即時興高采烈地走過來向我說他們做得到,而我也會向他們報以會心微笑。

學員中能力有高低,性格也迥異,除了要改良個人基本技術外,還要改變他們的英雄主義。面對他們的缺失時,要有技巧地指出他們的弱點,同時又不傷他們的自尊,讓他們能改善自己的弱處,實在很費神,亦是作為教練的一個大挑戰。

足球有別於其他運動,除了個人技術外,還要整體合作。透過訓練(例如小型比賽)時的錯失作例子,使他們知道英雄主義或者不信任隊友,結果只會導致失球。經過多年的訓練和重覆講解,學員已能夠在比賽中建立互信,學懂互相尊重,互相照顧,情如兄弟。

平心而論,這些學員的領悟力不弱,記憶力又好,只要為他們多花心思,再加上愛心耐心,公平及尊重,給予他們多些自由空間,他們便能在訓練中獲得樂趣。例如:我會讓他們參與比賽前的排陣和戰術的討論,增加他們的參與度,讓他們知道個別球員對球隊的重要性。

經過一番努力,足球隊於2007年的夏季世界賽勇奪金牌,喜出望外的成績為整個球隊帶來莫大的震撼力。

而2011雅典特奧世界賽,我們面對強勁的挑戰,在初賽分組後,我隊獲編與戰術高超的現代足球王國荷蘭、踢法勇猛的德國,還有俄羅斯及盧森堡同組。觀看過各隊的踢法、表現、氣力、速度和身材,香港足球隊明顯地處於下風,對今次賽事想奪得任何獎牌,真的不敢存有奢望。

不過結果卻令人喜出望外。首戰荷蘭,港隊經過賽前部署以及作出針對性的變陣,加上隊員踢出水準,最終以4 比2 勝出。這場比賽很重要,除了隊員踢出信心,而身為教練的我,亦重燃奪標之心;最後香港特殊奧運足球代表隊繼2007上海特奧後,再度奪得金牌。

連續兩屆特奧得到金牌,真是絕不容易!多謝各球員付出的努力,我為你們感到驕傲!

 

 

What is football? Even though the players are passionate in football, they did not know much about it and simply thought that kicking it would be fine at the beginning. As their coach, I couldn’t find a way to teach when I first met them. Nevertheless, their fond of football would be no less than the others and they are even more engaged in practice when comparing to the mainstream.

At first, I tried training ID players like typical athletes but no achievement had resulted. After several times of inspection and modification, I have made some amendment to their training mode. For example, I separate a series of motion into 2 to 3 different moves (especially the coordination motions) and lead them to do the moves unintentionally during practice. When they have done it, they will come by happily and tell me their achievement.

Not only does the ability of the players vary, but also their personality. Apart from improving techniques, they also need to change their attitude on heroism. When dealing with their mistakes, you need to point out their weaknesses for improvement but not hurting their dignity at the same time. Although this job is effort-consuming, it is also a big challenge to the coach.

Football requires individual skills as well as team cooperation, which differentiate it from other sports. Through mistakes committed during training (like minor competition), they learnt that heroism or not trusting your teammate only lead to failure of the game. After training and explanation for years, the team has built up faith in and respect to each other as if they were brothers.

To be frank, the players have good memory and are good at acquiring skills. They will enjoy the training if we can spend more time, have more patience as well as treat them fairly with respect and freedom. For example, I will let them to get involved in the discussion of team formation and tactical planning to increase their participation in the game, letting players to know each of them plays an important role in the team.

All the hard work of the team was paid off by the gold medal attained from the 2007 Special Olympics World Summer Games (SOWSG), which surprised the whole team a lot.

We encountered a great challenge in 2011 SOWSG in Athens. After divisioning, we were in a group with strong and competitive rivals, netherlands, Germany, Russia and Luxemburg. Having seen their physical and technical performances, we are obviously of disadvantage and do not expect to winning any prize.

However, the result was far beyond expectation. With pre-game deployment, targeted in formation and excellent performance of the players, the team won over the Netherlands by 4:2 in the first match. The winning was essential to the team because it not only boosted the confidence of the whole team, but also re-ignited my desire for the championship. Lastly, the team achieved the gold medal again after 2007 SOWSG Shanghai.

It is not easy to attain the gold medal for two consecutive years! Thanks to all the players in the team and I am really proud of you all!
